Want to Read saving…. Very well drawn and executed. Once you get past the gorgeous artwork, handsomely presented though it may be another win for the production team at FantagraphicsBardinbegins to lose its charm.

I was reminded of Calvin and Hobbes for those struck with incurable ennui. What a cool book. But Bardin also learns from this strange canine that he is the new custodian of this even stranger world.

Bardín the Superrealist

It’s simultaneously fascinating and disturbing, but the sensation is short-lived. In the epic final comic, Bardin leaps into his dreams and battles a succession of nightmare-beasts; triumphing over each one, even his own sleeping self!

There are supsrrealist fun drawings and the opening and closing strips benefit from being more long-form and loose.

Bardín the Superrealist by Max

Almost all of the last half of the book is taken up by “The Sound and the Fury,” a silent strip in which Bardin must fight through many bizarre situations as a knight complete with sword and helmet. It would seem that he serves, mostly, as a mouthpiece for Max’s opinions on issues like barrdin expression and religion. Some interesting sequences and conversations, but nothing surprising or moving.
